Instructions

What to do
1. Prepare a work area ahead of time by protecting a flat surface with newspaper.
2. Mix food coloring and water in cups and place the cups on your work surface.
3. Invite the children to place the tip of the eyedropper in a cup and pinch the bulb of the eyedropper
to fill it with the liquid.
4. Have the children squeeze the dropper, applying drops of color onto the coffee filter. Repeat
with other colors until the filter is completely covered.
5. Hang the filter or place it on a flat surface to dry.
6. Attach the stems and leaves to the filter with glue or staples.
More to do
More art: Create a garden scene by painting a mural for the classroom wall and applying the tiedye
flowers. Drop melted crayon onto the filter, then add the food coloring to create a different
look.
Science: Suspend a coffee filter over a cup of colored water, allowing the tip of the filter's base to
sit in the water. Observe the colors move up the filter and separate as the filter absorbs the liquid.
