Instructions
1. After the children get settled on their mats or cots, explain that you are going
to tell them a story.
2. Tell them that in order to hear the story, they must lie quietly on their cots
and make the pictures in their heads by closing their eyes.
3. Start the story with the "Student of the Week" as the main character. Add the
other children in the group to the story as you continue. If desired, make the
children animal characters (for example, "Sally Seagull") or plants (for
example, "Tracy Tree"). Children are very interested in hearing their own
names and will often stay quiet to do so.
4. Speak in a quiet, low voice with little animation. Continue quietly about the
almost boring adventures of the characters in your story.
5. Continue telling the story until all the children are asleep. Stories can
continue from day to day, or you can start them over each day or each week.
More to do
Play quiet music in the background, such as lullabies or classical music.
