Materials

Ten in the Bed book (any author)tagboardcomputer or markerlaminatorscissorsrubber cementfeltblank cassette tapetape playerflannel board

Instructions

1. Locate a book version of the song "Ten in the Bed." There are several books available, including one by Jane Cabrera and several by Penny Dale. Photocopy the illustrations on each page, reducing them if necessary.

2. Mount the pictures on tagboard. Use a computer or a marker to print captions under each picture: "There were _____ in the bed." (In each blank, list 10, 9, 8, and so on to 1.)3. Laminate the pictures for durability, and cut out.

4. Use rubber cement to glue felt on the backs of the pictures for flannel board use.

5. Make a cassette recording of the children singing "There Were Ten in the Bed."6. Place the pictures and recording of the song in a center with a flannel board and tape player.

7. Allow one child at a time to visit the center and put the appropriate pictures on the flannel board and sing along with the cassette as the song counts down from 10 to one.
