The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
Poster board in the colors of the fruits in the book
Scissors
White poster board
Caterpillar puppet or sock puppet
Butterfly puppet or picture of butterfly
Brown paper bag
Instructions
1. Cover the box with construction paper and glue it in place.
2. Write the title of a nursery rhyme on one side and draw (or use clip art) a
picture to represent that rhyme. For example, Humpty Dumpty sitting on a
wall.
3. Cover each side with a different rhyme and picture that represents that
rhyme.
4. Cover the box with clear contact paper.
5. Use the "rhyme die" at circle time. Pick a child to roll the cube, and together
recite or sing the rhyme that is on top.
More to do
After the children are familiar with the rhymes, begin asking questions about the
rhyme that is selected. For example, how did the king's horses and king's men
put Humpty Dumpty back together again?
