Instructions
1. Cover each block with a piece of design paper. If you can't find design paper, make your own using a computer and commercial software. Most computers have a program with graphics such as straw, sticks, and bricks. Layer the graphic over a single page on the computer and print. Note: If desired, you can skip steps 1 through 4 and simply use a picture of a straw house, stick house, and brick house.
2. Cover the triangular blocks with black paper. Add a paper chimney for effect.
3. Use hot glue or commercial glue dots to attach one triangular block to each square block to form a house shape.
4. Add a black rectangular paper to the front of each house to represent a door.
5. Set the houses up on one side of a small table. Set the pigs up across from the houses.
6. Show the children how to use the yarn to make a path from each pig to its respective house. To do this, put the yarn down at the pig's feet and stretch it across the table until it reaches a house. Repeat for the other two pigs and houses.
7. Ask the children, "Who are these young fellows? Is there a house for each pig?"8. Use your finger to trace the route from each pig to its house. Say, "Yes, this little pig has a house" each time.
9. Confirm the idea by saying, "The three little pigs have three little houses."10. Tell or read the story of the "Three Little Pigs."11. Leave the display up for use during center time.More to do Dramatic Play: Add a wolf doll and let the children use the props to take turns telling the story of "The Three Little Pigs."Related fingerplay Run Home, Little Piggies (tune: "My Little Red Wagon")One little, (hold up one finger)Two little, (hold up two fingers)Three little piggies (hold up three fingers)Built three homes, (pretend to swing a hammer)Bricks, straw, and twiggies.
