Instructions

Give each child a T-shirt and let him
place cardboard or newspaper inside
to prevent markers from bleeding
through.
2. Help each child dip the ball or
sponge in blue paint and make a
circle in the center of the shirt to form
the Earth.
3. After the blue paint dries, encourage
the children to use green paint to create
land areas.
4. Finally, help the children stencil their names
in green and blue permanent marker. You might
even stencil something like "Happy Earth Day" or
"Take Care of Our Earth" across the fronts of the shirts
as well.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Are the children able to manipulate the sponges and create Earth shapes at
the centers of their shirts?
* Do the children express an understanding that the images of the Earth on
their shirts are meant to stand for the Earth itself?
* Are the children able to stencil their names with ease?
