Materials

scissors (adult only)

yarn

flannel board

felt squares, triangles, and circles of various sizes

googly eyes (at least three pairs)

Velcro

Instructions

l Cut the yarn into matching lengths of 4", 6", and 8".
l Attach Velcro to the backs of googly eyes.
What to Do
1. Put the felt circles on the flannel board. Ask the children to identify the shape.
Repeat this step with triangles and squares.
2. Put a large circle on the board and say, "This is the body of an alien from the
shapes planet." Show children the yarn, eyes, and other shapes. Say, "Can you
help me make the rest of the alien?"
3. Have children take turns adding felt pieces, eyes, and yarn to the circle to
make an alien. Repeat with other shapes, encouraging the children to name
the shapes, and to imagine the planets from which they come.
