Instructions
1. Prior to this activity, send home a note asking the children to wear red, white,
and blue clothing on "Celebrate America Day."
2. On the day of the activity, stamp each child's hand with a red or blue star.
Read books and sing songs about America. Some ideas for songs include
"Twinkle, Twinkle, Capitol Star," "Yankee Doodle," "America the Beautiful," and
"This Land Is Your Land."
3. Make small American flags with the children by taping straws to flag stickers.
Help the children create "patriotic" headbands using red, white, and blue
construction paper strips. Encourage them to decorate the headbands with
red, white, and blue star cutouts.
4. When the headbands and flags are completed, have a classroom parade. Play
patriotic music and let the children march around the room wearing the
headbands and waving their American flags.
5. End the day with a snack of red and blue Jell-O jigglers.
