Materials

  • parachute (commercial or homemade using a bed sheet)

Instructions

1. When it is time to transition to a parachute activity, sing the following to the tune of “The Hokey Pokey:”

You move the parachute up,

You move the parachute down.

You move the parachute up,

And you shake it all around.

You shake it to the left,

You shake it to the right,

It’s called the parachute flight.

2. Add variety by suggesting some of the following ideas:

  • Keep your arms straight
  • Cross your arms
  • Hold the parachute with one hand (or two hands)
  • Move it while standing up (or kneeling down)
  • Sing with your eyes open (or shut)
  • Sing softly (or loudly)
  • Just the boys (or girls) sing

3. Encourage the children to contribute their ideas. Continue as time allows.

4. Add scarves, feathers, foam pieces, balloons, and other objects to the tossing fun.

Instructions

1. Tell the children that when they hear you blow the train whistle, it's time for
the next activity.
2. Choose one child to be the leader and wear the hat and handkerchief. The
other children line up behind the leader and make a train around the room,
leading to the next activity.
