Materials

old white candles

watercolor paints and brushes

light-colored construction paper

Instructions

1. Make these colorful panels to brighten
up your housekeeping center. The
instructions for each season are
the same except for the type of
materials used.
2. For each season, go on a nature
walk to collect as many natural
items as possible. Remember to
collect things that reflect the
current seasonal theme.
3. Ask the children to draw
pictures that depict the
seasonal theme. Provide very
thin paper, so when you hang your
creation the light will shine through it.
4. After collecting all the materials needed, cut a piece of adhesive paper large
enough to cover the window you have selected for your panel. Make sure
there is an equal amount of adhesive paper to cover the back of the panel.
5. Help the children apply the seasonal materials to one piece of adhesive
paper in any manner they wish. Use this time to talk about the different
things they have collected. Ask questions such as, "How does this colorful leaf
show us what season it is?"
6. After the children are satisfied with the placement of the seasonal materials,
apply the rest of the adhesive paper to the back, sandwiching the materials
between.
7. Tape the dowel rod to the top of the panel. Tie whatever you have chosen to
hang your panel with to both ends of the dowel rod.
8. Choose a window that gets a lot of light and hang the panel and illustrations
in it.
More to do Let the children make individual panels to take home. Simply cut smaller pieces
of adhesive paper for each child and let them use the seasonal materials to
create a unique display. Edge with rick-rack or ribbon, if desired. Punch a single
hole in the top, and help the child thread a piece of ribbon through it for
hanging.
