Instructions

1. Draw or paint a large tree on a poster board or bulletin board. Laminate
for durability, if desired. Make sure the green part of the tree is large
enough to hold all the die-cut apples. Write the heading "The crop is
here!"
2. Cut out enough apples so that there is one for each child. Write each
child's first name on an apple and laminate for durability, if desired.
3. Place the apples in a basket and place it next to the tree along with a
tape dispenser.
4. When each child arrives, she finds her apple with her name on it and
places it on the tree.
5. Let one child (class leader) take attendance by counting the number of
apples on the tree. Have the child (or all the children) count the number
of children in the room and see if that number corresponds to the
number of apples on the tree. Make sure to rotate children so each child
gets a turn.
6. After a few weeks, when the children
get the hang
of it, they
may even
start
reading
each
other's
names and
figuring out
whose
apple is not
on the tree.
More to do Art: Make Apple Trees. Have children paint trees at the easel. When the
trees are dry, encourage them to use round sponges to make apples.
