Instructions

Create a set of cards to use
in a flash card game. On at
least four of the cards print a
picture of a butterfly with the
words "Fly like a butterfly."
On the other cards, print the
letters of the alphabet.
What to Do
1. Shuffle all the cards together.
2. Flip through the cards one at
a time, asking the children to
identify the letters.
3. When you come to a butterfly card, everyone stands up and flies around like a
butterfly. Talk with the children about how butterflies move.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* Instead of butterflies, use different animal pictures and movements: slithering
snakes, hopping bunnies, swimming fish, and so on. Instead of letters of the
alphabet, use sight words or pictures.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Are the children able to identify the letters they see on the cards?
* Do the children move like butterflies when they see the appropriate card?
