Materials

paper

scissors (adult only)

markers

large chart paper divided into 12 sections

list of the children's birth months

glue sticks

Instructions

* Make name cards for the children about 8" long.
* Label the 12 sections of the chart paper with the months of the year.
What to Do
1. Ask the children to tell which month they were born in. Help any who are
unsure.
2. Show each child how to glue his name card under the correct month to show
his birth month.
3. Continue until all the children have glued their names on the graph.
4. When the graph is dry, hang it up in the classroom and compare the results.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
* To extend this activity, bring some simple graphs from newspapers to discuss.
For snack, serve birthday cupcakes with candles to blow out.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* Can the children discuss the results of the graph?
* Can the children tell you which month has the most names? The fewest
names? Are any months with no names? Do any months have the same
number of names?
