Materials

26 2" x 2" strips of paper

small cloth or paper bag

pen or marker

Instructions

1. Write each letter of the alphabet (both upper- and lowercase) on a
square of paper.
2. Fold each piece and place inside the bag.
3. Gather the children for circle time.
4. Ask the first child to pick a paper from the bag, open it, and say the letter
and sound out loud. The child shows the letter to the class and the class
repeats the letter and sound.
5. The child then says a word that begins with that letter sound. If the child
cannot think of one, she can call on a classmate for help.
6. Have the child pass the bag to the child on her right, who repeats the
process.
7. Continue until all the children have had a turn or all the letters have
been used.
