Instructions
1. Have all the materials available, and wait for a windy day.
2. Talk about the wind and about air. Air is all around us; we breathe and can fill a bag or a balloon with it. Air moves some things.
3. Introduce the wind makers to the children (balloons require close adult supervision). Let them experiment with the wind makers. For younger children, a foot pump is much easier to use than a hand pump.
4. Place the classroom objects on a table. Give the children time to experiment with each and to see which items can be moved by the air created by the various wind makers and which cannot. Encourage children to categorize items.More to doArt: Make wind chimes and hang them outdoors near a classroom window. * Make wind paintings by moving liquid on a level paper with air from a wind maker. * Make decorative hand fans with poster board and tongue depressors.
