Instructions

1. Draw stick figures in various positions on cards or poster board. Examples
include standing on one leg, one arm raised, both arms raised, knees bent,
arms out to the sides, kneeling, lying down, and so on.
2. Draw facial expressions (such as happy, sad, angry, frightened, and silly) on
cards or poster board.
3. Show the full-length mirror to the children. Discuss or review how we show
feelings (for example, smile when happy).
4. Invite children to visit the movement center and look in the mirror.
5. Show them the poster or cards of the stick figures and challenge them to
look in the mirror and make their bodies look like the figures.
6. Provide hand mirrors. Encourage the children to make the same facial
expressions on the poster or cards while looking in their mirrors.
7. Encourage the children to share their positions and expressions with friends
at the center.
More to do Circle Time: In the group setting, give mirrors to the children. Have them look
at themselves and tell others the color of their hair, eyes, if they have freckles,
and so on.
