Materials

Pieces of sturdy poster board or matte board Fabric clippings of various textures: corduroy, velour, fleece, etc.Other items with interesting textures, such as sandpaper, smooth contact paper, double-sided tape, seashells, rocks or pipe cleaners Markers

Instructions

1. Introduce the concept of touch by having the children feel and describe their clothing, thesurface they are sitting on, their hair, etc.

2. Present the items and encourage the children to feel and describe them. They can try thiswith their eyes closed as well.

3. Give each child a piece of poster board and allow her to glue several different textures onto it.

4. Ask each child to describe her textures, such as spongy, sticky, sharp, rough, smooth, bumpy,fuzzy, etc., and write their words below the items.

5.
