Materials

10 felt mosquitoes and flannel board (optional)fly swatter (optional)

Instructions

1. Invite the children to sing the following song to the tune of "Little Red Wagon."Ten MosquitoesOne little, two little, three mosquitoes,Four little, five little, six mosquitoes,Seven little, eight little, nine mosquitoes,Ten mosquitoes eating me!2. Add the mosquitoes to the flannel board as you sing them. If you don't want to use props, hold up fingers as you count.

3. Once the children are adept at the first verse, add the following verse to the song:Squish one flat and that'll leave nine,Squish one flat and that'll leave nine,Squish one flat and that'll leave nine,Nine mosquitoes eating me.

4. Hit the felt mosquito with a fly swatter and remove it from the flannel board at the end of the verse (or make a slapping gesture on your leg).

5. Repeat the verse, diminishing the number by one each time, and end with this verse:Squish one flat and that'll leave none,Squish one flat and that'll leave none,Squish one flat and that'll leave none,No mosquitoes eating me. But ooh, I'm itchy!
