Instructions

* Make a set of insect cards. Fold pieces of cardstock in the middle so that they
will stand up. Glue the image of an insect on one side, and write the insect's
name on the other side of the cardstock.
What to Do
1. Place the insect cards on the floor in a circle.
2. Teach the children the following rhyme, and have the children skip around the
insect cards as you recite it together. Name a different insect in each blank:
Meet My Friend by anonymous
Meet my friend, little Mr. __________.
He's a buzzy, busy little guy.
Meet my friend, little Mr. __________.
He can crawl and he can fly.
Meet my friend, little Mr. __________.
See how he zips through the air.
Meet my friend, little Mr. __________.
With his wings, he can travel anywhere.
3. When the rhyme mentions an insect, the child beside the correct insect card
picks it up and shows it to the rest of the children.
4. Repeat the activity a few times, changing the order in which you name the
insects.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* How well do the children participate in the game?
* Do the children correctly identify each insect?
