Materials

Dark construction paper

Small paper cut-outs

Double-sided or ordinary cellophane tape

Instructions

1. Have the children choose a paper cut-out and tape it onto their construction paper. Usedouble-sided tape or roll ordinary tape so the tape does not extend beyond the edge ofthe cut-out.

2. Hang the paper in a sunny window.

3. After a few days, return the papers to the children and ask them to remove the paper cut-out.Have the children observe how the sun has faded the color of the paper except where the cutoutblocked the sunlight.More to doMore art: Place small objects such as felt shapes, buttons, and macaroni on the paper and lay itflat on a windowsill for the same results. Have children cut out their initials and lay them onanother sheet of paper in a sunny place.
