Instructions

1. Look for stuffed animals that correlate with your themes and book titles at
yard sales, consignment stores, and on sale at retail stores. When you see
good bargains that relate to your curriculum, snatch them up!
2. Feature a book and stuffed animal in a special display in the classroom.
Change the display regularly to keep interest alive. Possible suggestions are:
* A mallard duck for Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey
* A penguin for Cinderella Penguin by Janet Perlman, Tacky the Penguin
by Helen Lester, or Little Penguin's Tale by Audrey Wood
* A dolphin for What's Under the Ocean? by Janet Craig
* A teddy bear for Sleepy Bear by Lydia Dabcovich, Where's My Teddy?
by Jez Alborough, or Little Bear by Else Holmelund Minarik
* A lion for Dandelion by Don Freeman
* A whale for The Whale's Song by Dyan Sheldon
* A dinosaur for The Dinosaur Who Lived in My Backyard by B.G. Hennessy
Tip: When buying used stuffed animals, make sure they are in good condition
with no holes in the fur, loose buttons, and so on. Also make sure to wash them
before letting the children play with them. Most are machine washable; check
the label to be sure.
