Instructions

All of the following activities use the squeeze/release motion that scissors require.
Tong Transfer
1. Fill a bowl with several objects and place it on a table.
2. Provide one empty container for each type of object.
3. Encourage the children to use tongs to pick up the objects and sort them into
the empty bowls.
4. Repeat the activity using smaller objects and tweezers.
Cotton Ball Painting
1. Pour tempera paint into bowls.
2. Encourage the children to use tweezers to pick up a cotton ball. The child can
dip it into paint and use it as a brush to paint on a piece of paper.
3. Give the child a new cotton ball when it gets too soggy or if she wants to
change colors.
4. Discard used cotton balls or stick them to the picture for an interesting effect.
Bulb Blaster Water Transfer
1. Place a bowl of colored water on the left side of a tray.
2. Place an empty bowl on the right side of the tray.
3. Encourage the children to use a bulb baster to transfer water from the bowl
on the left to the bowl on the right.
4. Do the same activity using smaller bowls and eyedroppers.
