Instructions

1. Talk to the children about noises. Explain that sometimes there are quiet noises, and sometimes there are noises that everyone hears.2. Go on a quiet walk with the children and ask them to listen to the sounds. Walk through the school, listening for any noise. Walk outside and see if you hear any noises.3. Go back inside, still being as quiet as possible, and encourage the children to take turns describing one of the noises they heard while walking through the school and one of the noises they heard outside. Ask them which was the loudest and which was the quietest.4. The next time you say you're going on a quiet walk, the children are sure to listen for every noise.More to do:Encourage the children to draw pictures of the things they heard on their walk. They can also make a "Noise" book by cutting out pictures from old magazines of things that make noise. This will give the children new things to listen for on your next quiet walk.
