Instructions

1. When moving from one center to another, or when settling into a group
time with several children together, have the children copy each other or
you. This works especially well with younger preschoolers.
2. Choose one child to suggest what he would like to be or do. For example, he
could be a train conductor or a firefighter (or you can choose what to do).
3. Have the child show the other children what the engineer does and the
others can follow. They can proceed to "chug, chug, chug, down the tracks" or
"drive the fire truck" while moving along. Or just make up silly movements or
faces to imitate.
4. If desired, play music or sing songs as you move along. Made-up words and
tunes work fine.
More to do Use a thematic instrument to get or keep the children's attention, such as a
train whistle, "fire" bell, cow bell, bicycle horn (some sound like ducks), and so on.
Additional ideas include "cowpokes on horses" (galloping), waddling like
ducklings, and skating like skaters.
