Materials

Chart paper and marker Construction paper

Clear school glue or toothpicks and glue in tray Crayons

Instructions

1. In advance, draw a large spider web on chart paper.

2. Gather children around the large spider web. Ask them to tell you what they know aboutspider webs. Explain that spider webs are sticky. When a small insect comes into contact withthe web, it may get stuck. A spider uses the web to gather food.

3. Give each child a piece of construction paper andcrayons. Encourage him to create his own web andthen draw a picture of an insect caught in the web.Write "Look! A ________ is caught in my web!"Help the child complete the sentence.

4. Using glue bottles or trays with glue and toothpicks, have the children trace over the weblines with glue to make them raised and sticky.

5. After the glue dries, encourage the children to feel the raised web lines.

6. Bind the pages together to make a class book titled "Look What the Spider Caught in HerSticky Web!"More to doSnack: Serve something sticky for snack time such as caramel corn, rice crispy squares or breadwith honey.
