What to do
1. Pour glue into small bowls and dilute it with a small amount of water. Hand a sheet of wax
paper and several pieces of thread to each child.
2. Have the children dip the pieces of thread in the glue one by one and lay them on a piece of
wax paper, crisscrossing them.
3. Set the webs aside while the glue dries.
4. When dry, have the children gently pull the web from the wax paper.
5. Tie a piece of the thread to the web for hanging.
6. Display the webs in front of a window.
More to do
Language: After a walk outdoors to look for spider webs, have the children write a journal entry
or dictate a few sentences describing what they saw.
More art: Construct mobiles with sticky webs. Design a cover for a spider journal, using fingerprint
spiders or a collection of pictures from magazines.
Outdoors: Go on a nature hunt early in the morning, if possible, and look for spiders and their
webs; gather small objects to attach to the handmade webs.
