Instructions

l Hide the plush toy snowman somewhere in the room.
What To Do
1. Gather a few children together and talk to them
about the winter season. Ask the children if they
have ever made or seen a snowman.
2. Read Raymond Briggs's The Snowman to the
children. Discuss the story with the children.
Challenge them to recall and describe the story.
3. Tell the children there is a toy snowman hidden
somewhere in the classroom for them to find.
4. Invite the children to look through the classroom
for the snowman. Use the words "hot" and "cold" to let the children know
how close to or far from finding the snowman they are.
5. After the children find the snowman, consider hiding the snowman again and
repeating the activity, if the children show interest.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l Consider having the child who finds the snowman hide it for the next round,
and having this child direct the other children by saying "hot" and "cold" as
they search for the snowman.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children describe the story of The Snowman?
l Do the children pay attention to the "hot" and "cold" clues to adjust their
search for the snowman?
