Instructions
1. When transitioning from one activity to the next, try one of the following ideas. The big advantage of these ideas is that they keep the children listening!* Give directions such as, "If your shoes have Velcro on them, you may get your coat on." Follow with other types of footwear classifications, such as laces, buckles, and slip-ons. Use this transition with other articles of clothing too. For example, "If you have buttons (or zippers, letters, stripes, and so on) on your shirt..."* Suggest a category, such as favorite breakfast cereal, and ask each child in turn to name his favorite. After they do so, they may move to the next activity. Tell them you'll ask the quietest one first!* Tell the children that you are going to describe them one at a time. When the child thinks he knows that you are talking about him, he may line up at the door. Start with a broad description, and then get more specific. For example, "I'm thinking of a girl...she has blond hair...she has a baby brother..."* Ask each child to move to the next activity in a different way, such as waddling like a duck or hopping like a frog.
