Materials
tissue paper (red, brown, orange, yellow, green)
small branch with small twigs (one per child) snack-size applesauce or pudding containers (clean and empty) white glue paper cutter green tempera paint brushInstructions
1. Find a branch about 1/4 " thick and 1' tall for each child.
2. Have the children tear small pieces of tissue paper in a variety of autumn
colors to use as leaves.
3. Invert the applesauce containers and cut an "X" in the center of each.
Give one to each child. If necessary, use playdough or clay for stability.
4. Mix white glue with green tempera paint. Have the children paint their
containers. Let dry.
5. Trim each branch into the shape of a tree.
6. Help the children push the cut branch into the "X" on the inverted
containers, making sure it will stand upright.
7. Have children put dots of white glue all over the branch twigs. The
children put the torn tissue paper on the dots of glue to make leaves.
Math: Show leaves in a variety of shapes (maple, oak, elm, plum, and so on).
Invite the children to match leaves by shape.
More Math: Cut out felt leaves in a variety colors. Use them for simple
addition or subtraction problems for the children to solve.
