Materials
foam sheets
scissors (adult only) double-sided tape copy paper crayons set of number cardsInstructions
* Cut 4" numbers from foam sheets and stick them to a table with double-sided
tape.
* Group three foam numbers close enough so they will fit on a piece of copy
paper.
* Remove the paper wrappers from old crayon pieces.
What to Do
1. Show the children how to work
with a partner: one child holds
the paper still while another
child makes a crayon rubbing.
2. Ask a child to hold a piece of
copy paper over a set of three
numbers taped to the table.
3. While the first child keeps the
paper still, show the second child
how to rub over the foam shapes
with the side of the unwrapped crayon to make the number appear.
4. Remind the children to make sure their partners hold the papers still or the
numbers will look too fuzzy to recognize.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
* If you show the children the set of number cards in random order, can they
name the numbers?
* Do the children cooperate with one another to complete the task?
