Materials

Milk, 1/4 cup (60 ml) for each color

Bowls and spoons

Food coloring

Sliced bread

Pastry brushes

Toaster (adult only)Butter and plastic knife

Instructions

1. Pour 1/4 cup (60 ml) of milk into each bowl. Ask the children to mix food coloring into the cups of milk. (Use primary colors.)2. Give each child a piece of bread.

3. Encourage the children to "paint" their bread with the colored milk using clean pastry brushes. Note what happens when the colors mix together on the bread.

4. Put the bread into the toaster (adult only). For prettier colors, adjust the toaster on the light side.

5. Spread the toast with butter. Eat and enjoy!
