Instructions

l To make a set of colored shape cards, simply cut four different 4" shapes
(circle, triangle, square, and rectangle) from red, yellow, green, blue, and
orange paper.
l Glue each shape to a 5" x 7" note card. Make two sets of cards.
What to Do
1. Stack one deck of cards face down on the floor.
2. Hand out the other set of cards to the children, one card per child.
3. Tell the children that you will display a card from your deck and whoever has
the matching card puts it face up next to your card.
4. Begin the game by turning over the first card. Wait for the child with the
matching card to place her card next to yours. Continue until the children
match all the cards.
5. Shuffle and deal the cards and hand them out again for another round of color
shape fun. It is also fun to try playing this game without anyone speaking!
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l Laminate the cards for durability.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Use the note cards from the activity like a set of flash cards. Display each card
as you invite children to identify the color of the shape on the card. Can each
child identify the colors and shapes of all the cards?
l As an additional assessment, give one child a puppet, and then display several
cards from the deck. Invite the child to have the puppet "talk" about the
colors and shapes that are on display.
