1. Read several books about spring and talk about the signs of spring.
Make your own class book about spring.
2. Draw or glue an enlarged baby chick pattern on two pieces of poster
board or oak tag (about 11" x 17").
3. Cut around the shape to make the front and back covers.
4. Using markers, color the chick yellow and its beak and feet orange.
5. Laminate the covers for durability, and cut out.
6. Write the following sentence on small sentence strips: "My favorite
thing about spring is ____________."
7. Let each child dictate his response to fill in the blank, or let him write it
himself.
8. Cut a class supply of 11" x 17" sheets of paper into the baby chick
shape.
9. Glue each completed sentence frame to the bottom of a separate page.
10. Let each child use crayons to illustrate his sentence at the top of
the page.
11. Assemble the finished pages and bind them between the covers using
a binding machine or hole punch and yarn.
