What to do

1. Gather the children together and engage them in a discussion about springtime.

2. Ask the children how spring is different from other seasons of the year. Ask if it snows in the springtime, or if the springtime is when people go to the beach.

3. Encourage the children to name some of their favorite springtime activities.

4. With the children, sing the following song:

Spring Day by Jackie Wright
(Tune: "Hickory Dickory Dock")
It is a lovely spring day!
I'm on my way to play!
I grab my cap,
And next my bat,
And then I am on my way!

(Invite the children to make up verses for other springtime activities)
It is a lovely spring day!
I'm on my way to play!
I fly my kite
With all my might,
And then I am on my way!

Assessment

To assess the children's learning, consider the following:

  • Can the children describe particular activities they like to do in spring?
  • Are the children able to recite the song? Can they make up new verses?
