Materials

White construction paper

Pencils

Paint and paintbrushes

Pipe cleaners

Yarn or string, optional

Instructions

1. Have the children stand on the paper with their feet side by side. Ask them to trace their feetwith a pencil.

2. When they are finished, ask the children to cut out the pattern of their feet and fold it in half.

3. When the children have pressed a fold in their paper, have them open it and paint spots on oneside of the fold.

4. Next, ask the children to fold the paper in half again and gently rub the sides together, thenopen it and allow the paint to dry.

5. Finally, ask the children to cut a paper shape for the body and glue it in the center of the wings.

6. Attach two pieces of pipe cleaner for the antennae. Attach string or yarn to hang the butterflies,if desired.More to doLanguage: Have the children compose a poem about butterflies individually or as a class; gluethe poems on the back of the butterfly wings.
