Materials

Toilet paper tubes Black paint

Paintbrush Black construction paper

Tape Scissors

Yarn or string

Instructions

1. Children cover tubes with black construction paper or paint them black.

2. Have children cut eight strips of black paper and fold them fan style to form the legs.

3. Have the children tape four strips onto each side of tube.

4. To make the face, tell the children to cut out a small circle about the size of the tube openingand tape it over one end.

5. To hang the spiders, thread the string or yarn through the middle of the tube so someextends above and below the spider. When spider has been hung, the thread hanging downlooks like it has been spun by the spider.More to doLanguage: Talk about how the spider is symmetrical, pointing out that both sides of the spiderare exactly the same.
