stuffed Cat in the Hat (optional)

Instructions

1. Write the verses of the following song on a sticky note. Reach for one any
time during the day when the children need to wait a minute or two. Sing
the verse with the children.
Anytime Rhyming Song (Tune: "Farmer in the Dell")
House rhymes with mouse.
House rhymes with mouse.
Hi! Ho! Just listen, oh!
House rhymes with mouse.
Wet rhymes with pet.
Wet rhymes with pet.
Hi! Ho! Just listen, oh!
Wet rhymes with pet.
Additional verses:
Man rhymes with can...
Toes rhymes with nose...
Cat rhymes with bat...
Snow rhymes with blow...
Hit rhymes with sit...
Sun rhymes with run...
2. Write a list of rhyming words on a file card. Add them to the song, checking
them off as you use them. Keep adding to the list of rhyming words the
possibilities are endless!
3. Another good transition activity is to name a body part and have the
children think of a rhyming word. For example, "hair" rhymes with "chair," and
"hand" rhymes with "band."
More to do Gross Motor: Ask the children to do a motion such as kick, and then think of a
rhyming word ("thick").
Language: Cut out pictures of rhyming words from a magazine and mount
them on oak tag. Show the children one picture, and they choose the rhyming
picture.
Books: Read stories with many rhyming words in them. Read one rhyming
word and let the children guess (using the sentence context) what the rhyming
word might be.
