Materials

40 12" strands of yellow or white yarn, or rope4 brown or red sock balls (one sock rolled up and tucked inside the open end)4-quart cooking pot with lid4 large plastic bowlsdie

Instructions

1. Put the spaghetti (yarn strands) and meatballs (sock balls) inside a cooking pot with a lid. Place all the materials together at a table.

2. Invite a child to roll the die and count the number of dots facing up.

3. The child counts out the same number of pieces of spaghetti and places them in a bowl.

4. Let the child repeat the activity for the other three bowls.

5. When the child is finished, she places a "meatball" on top of the bowl of spaghetti.

6. For older children, use two dice. Ask the children to count the total number of pieces of spaghetti and meatballs that are in the pot.
