Scissors
White or off-white yarn
Glue

Large brown pompoms
Red paint
Instructions
1. Read the book Sunflower House to the children.
2. Cut a door into a large appliance box using a craft knife (adult only). Cut out
circles to make windows.
3. Encourage the children to paint the house with yellow and green paint. (It
looks best if you paint the top section yellow and the lower section green.)
4. If desired, cut out petals, stems, and leaves from construction paper or green
tissue paper and glue them around the windows.
5. Help the children glue or tape white cotton or batting onto blue paper.
6. Take the top off the box and tape the blue paper over the opening so that
when the children look up, they see the "sky."
7. Children can decorate the outside and inside of the box with pictures of
sunflowers.

Art: This is a good project for painting with feather dusters.
Science: Bring in sunflowers for the children to look at and touch.
Grow sunflowers.
Snack: Serve real sunflower seeds, and possibly other seeds, such as baked
pumpkin seeds.
