Variety of small items such as buttons, paper clips, washers, coins, dried beans,

hair clips, and so on

2 empty egg cartons, with lids removed

Instructions

1. Make copies of the frog head (see illustration on the following page) and
songs (see below).
2. Give each child a copy of the frog head to color. If desired, the children can
add a tongue to the puppet and a bug on the end of the tongue.
3. Attach a craft stick to the base of each child's frog head using tape or a stapler.
4. Sing "Grump Went the Little Green Frog" and encourage the children to hold
their frog puppets and jump as they sing. The children can stoop down in a
frog position, with their hands on the floor and elbows between their knees.
Then, leap forward each time they sing the word "gr-ump."
Grump Went the Little Green Frog
Gr-ump went the little green frog one day,
Gr-ump went the little green frog.
Gr-ump went the little green frog one day,
And the frog went gr-ump, gr-ump, gr-ump.
5. Encourage the children to act out "Five Little Speckled Frogs." Choose five
children at a time to stand in front of the group. As the group sings the song,
one "frog" pretends to leap into a pool until there is none left. Rotate the
groups of children so that everyone gets a turn.
Five Little Speckled Frogs
Five little speckled frogs,
Sat on a great big log,
Eating some most delicious bugs
YUM! YUM!
One jumped into the pool,
Where it was nice and cool,
Now there are four green speckled frogs,
GLUMP! GLUMP!
(Start the song over with four frogs, then three, and so on.)
