10 to 12 felt shapes, including squares, circles,
triangles, and ovals square box piece of construction paperInstructions
1. Place one felt shape in front of each child. Talk with the children about the
different shapes they see in front of them.
2. Talk with the children about the number of sides on a square.
3. Ask the children who have squares in front of them to hold them up. Help
children as needed.
4. Explain to the children that all of
the square shapes belong in the
square box, and all of the other
shapes belong on the piece of
construction paper.
5. Invite each child to sort the
shapes into their proper places.
Teacher - to - Teacher Tip
l Cut all of the shapes from the
same color felt so that the children can focus on sorting shapes, not colors.
