Materials
several pairs of women's colored socks, in a variety of colors, one pair per child
Instructions
l Cut a large circle from each of the three colors of poster board. Tape a pencil
or craft stick on the back of each to serve as a handle.
l Draw crossroads on the sidewalk with chalk.
What to Do
1. Discuss the concept of the traffic lights
with the children (red means stop, yellow
means slow, green means go).
2. Let a child pretend to be a traffic
controller and stand at the center of the
crossroads to display the traffic lights one
by one.
3. The other children can pretend to be cars
and follow the traffic signs. Let the
children use plastic plates as a steering
wheel. A few children can act as
pedestrians and walk across the marked
crossing when the traffic light is red.
4. Children can interchange their roles and
continue the game.
Assessment
To assess the children's learning, consider the following:
l Can the children identify the colors of each traffic light?
l Can the children explain the meaning of each color on a traffic light?
