6 socks, numbered 1 through 6Various items, such as marbles, brush, glue bottle, ruler, an orange

Cards with the name of one object written on each

Instructions

1. Discuss with the children the sense of touch. We can identify through touch the size, texture,temperature and shape of an object. There are many touch receptors scattered over our skin.

2. Put the items in the socks.

3. Children should take off one shoe and sock. They take turns pulling on socks and, usingonly their feet, feeling what is in each of the six socks.

4. Have the word cards on hand so the children can match what is in the socks with the correctwords. For older children have extra words of objects that are not in the socks or usedescriptive words.
