Instructions

What to do
1. Show the children what the sock
bird will look like by placing one
you have already made over your
hand, then laying it flat so that the
children can see how the "features"
are placed.
2. Help the children cut a large folded
beak from the yellow felt to
place inside of the sock bird's
mouth at the end.
3. Have the children glue googly eyes
on top of sock.
4. Give each child two or three
brightly colored feathers to glue
on the sock bird's head.
Feathers can also be added on the
bottom of the sock for a feathercovered
body.
More to do
Dramatic play: Set up a puppet theatre
and invite the children to put on
a show with their new sock bird puppets.
More art: Give children socks and a
variety of decorative materials and colorful markers. Invite them to make "crazy" birds by
decorating them in funny and original ways.
