3-4 sheets of white tissue paper for each child
2 buckets ropesInstructions
1. Place two pieces of rope on the floor about 4'-6' apart (reduce or expand
the space according to the developmental level of the children).
2. Divide the children into two teams and have each team line up behind a
rope. Place a bucket next to each team.
3. The child at the head of each line crunches a piece of tissue paper to
make a "snowball." He then puts it into the bucket (to avoid throwing
before it's time!) and runs to the back of the line.
4. This continues until all the children have made three or four "snowballs."
5. Have the children stand along the rope, facing the opposing team. The
team who makes all their snowballs first gets to throw first. Have the
team going second take a few paces back, so the area just behind their
rope is empty.
6. Give each child on the first team three snowballs and, at a given signal,
the snowball throwing begins. This can be done in turn or all at once. The
object is to throw the snowball over the rope into the opposing side's
space.
7. When the throwing is done, all the children count aloud to see how
many snowballs have made it over the rope into the opposing team's
territory.
8. Then the second team gets to throw their snowballs.

of the dozens of words the Inuit use for snow and share this with the
children.
