Materials

2" (5 cm) square pieces of animal "skin" samples: wallpaper, cloth samples like fake fur, reptile print, fish scales, lobster shell, chamois, leather, feathers, pieces of tree bark

Glue Cardboard pieces, 4" x 6" (10 cm x 15 cm)Pictures of animals Pictures of fruits and vegetables

Instructions

1. Glue the skin samples onto the cardboard, one per piece.

2. Cut out pictures of whole animals, and glue them on cards, again, one per piece.

3. Ask the children to match the skin samples with the cards of the whole figures.More to doMore science: Encourage the children to categorize skin sample cards by common characteristics: soft, smooth, rough, etc. * Have a magnifying glass available to observe sample cards and children's own skin.
