Instructions

Arrange the carpet squares in the classroom to create a pathway leading from
the large group area to the learning centers area.
* Arrange a variety of plants, rocks, and sticks along the pathway to create an
outdoor effect.
* Display several beanbag or paper insects along the border of the pathway.
* Display a word card near each insect accordingly.
What to Do
1. When it's time to transition from one activity to another, invite the children to
line up at one end of the pathway.
2. Instruct the children to quietly walk along the insect pathway and identify
each insect by name.
3. Remind the children to be careful where they walk so they don't step on any
insect friends.
4. Encourage the children to read the word cards as they walk along the trail.
5. When the children reach the opposite end of the pathway they are free to
move on to the next activity.
6. Remind the children to walk and talk quietly as they move along the pathway
of insects.
Assessment
Consider the following:
* Walk with the children along the insect pathway and listen as they identify
each insect on display.
* Invite individual children to stop and pick up a select insect and
