paper plates
brown bread and white bread (1 slice of each for each child) whipped cream cheese plastic knives jelly or jam (optional) green seedless grapes or grape tomatoes (optional)Instructions
1. Give each child a paper plate with a slice of brown bread on it.
2. Invite the children to place whipped cream cheese on the bread and spread it
with a knife. If desired, repeat the process with the jelly or jam on the white
bread.
3. Have them place the white bread on the brown bread.
4. Older children can cut the sandwich into quarters with a plastic knife by
following your directions. Cut younger children's sandwiches into quarters for
them.
5. Ask the children to turn the top left and the bottom right quarter upside
down. This gives the sandwich a checkerboard effect, making the concept of
quarters more visual.
6. If desired, garnish the center of the sandwich with the grape or the tomato.
