material scraps (pipe cleaners, toothpicks, small sticks, Styrofoam pieces, yarn,
cut-up pictures of body parts from catalogs, and so on)

Instructions
1. Add squeegees, large trays, Plexiglas, paint, squirt bottles of water, and paper
to the art area. Add some interest to the sponge painting by cutting unique
shapes into the sponge ends of the squeegees.
2. Encourage the children to explore the materials as desired. For example, they
could paint with the sponge end of the squeegees dipped in paint, scrape
their work with the rubber end of the squeegee, clean the Plexiglas using
water, paint on the Plexiglas with either end of the squeegee, and make a
print by placing the paper on the Plexiglas and rubbing the back of the
paper.
