Instructions

1. Sing the following to the tune of "Three Blind Mice."
1-2-3, to the chairs, please.
1-2-3, to the chairs, please.
1-2-3, to the chairs, please.
Additional verses:
1-2-3, to the carpets, please...
1-2-3, to the footprints, please...
1-2-3, to the table, please...
2. The song is a repetitive method of informing the children what to do. When
the children hear this tune, they know that you are giving them directions
about where to go or what to do. Too often children are confused and
distracted during transitions. A familiar tune will help them focus on the
expected task.
3. When it is time to move to a new area, begin singing the song. Encourage
the children to join in and to move to the area in the song.
4. Introduce the song at circle or group time, and ask the children to practice
the song and words.
Author's Note: Use puppets to demonstrate what you want children to do
while the group sings the song. The children can also take puppets to the
areas and help the puppets follow the directions in the song.
